October 12, 2009, Category: Email

Convert your Gmail account into an online MP3 player Your Gmail account has several rich features. One of its features that you’ll like most is its capability to play your MP3 music online directly from within your Gmail, without needing any outside MP3 software or player. The biggest advantage is that you can upload your MP3 music files to your Gmail account and then play any song by opening the email and playing the MP3 file. It can save you a lot of space on your hard disk and moreover, now your songs are online in your own Gmail account for which you don’t have to search anywhere on the Internet. These songs are now available to you on any computer anywhere, wherever you can open your Gmail account.

How to do it?

It’s very simple. Locate your MP3 files on your computer. Send an email to your own Gmail account by attaching one or more MP3 files. You can send such email to yourself even from the same Gmail account; it will appear in Gmail as having come from “me”.

You can write the title of the song and/or the name of the artist in the “Subject” of the email. This will help you later to locate which email contains which MP3 file. Send as many songs as you like in this way to your Gmail account, subject to availability of space in your account. In fact, you can even open one or more new Gmail accounts specifically for storing your MP3 files! Each new Gmail account can give you several GB’s of space.

You can also ask your friends or family members to send you email with attached MP3 files to your Gmail account. Likewise, you can also send MP3 files to your friends, family members, etc., to their Gmail account, if they so wish. However, just take care that you follow the applicable laws with regard to these MP3 files.

When an email message in your Gmail account contains an attached MP3 file, it displays a Play link opposite the name of that file. See, the following image:

An attached MP3 file to an email in your Gmail account will display a "Play" link

To play this MP3 music, you’ve to simply click on this Play link; and, Gmail will automatically start an inbuilt online music player for you to play your MP3 song. It’s not your Windows Media Player but rather Google’s own online player which runs your MP3 file from within your Gmail. Look at the following image to see how the Gmail is running music file in this manner:

So, simply enjoy listening to your favorite music!
