Yahoo! Mail Plus - get disposable email addresses There are many situations when you don’t want to disclose your real e-mail address. For example, you’re browsing the Internet and come across a website where you are required to enter your e-mail address, but your interaction with their website is going to be only for a temporary period, and you don’t want to disclose your real e-mail address. You may be concerned that your e-mail address will fall into the hands of the spammers and you may start getting spam mail. So, what you require to do is to use an e-mail address that is not your main or primary email address. Or, the second option is to use a disposable email address that can be used for as long as you want and then just thrown away when you start getting spam mail. There are many service providers on the Internet that can provide you free anonymous e-mail addresses or disposable email addresses; however, many of them may not be reliable and your privacy and personal details may be at risk depending on what is the purpose for using the disposable e-mail address. But, not many people know that Yahoo! also provides disposable e-mail addresses that can be used for dealing with those services where you don’t want to share your primary email address or for temporary purposes and thereafter the same can be thrown away. The fact that the disposable e-mail address is available from Yahoo! can make you feel secure and safe, in view of its high reputation. However, Yahoo! does not provide disposable e-mail addresses for those who use its free Yahoo! Mail services. The feature of disposable e-mail services is available only as part of the paid Yahoo! Mail Plus services. This feature is made available as a part of AddressGuard for the paid Yahoo! Mail Plus services.

Yahoo! Mail Plus is available for subscription for an amount of $19.99 for the whole year. You can upgrade your existing free Yahoo! Mail account to the paid Yahoo! Mail Plus account (so that you can retain your existing Yahoo! email address), or you can directly open a new paid Yahoo! Mail Plus account. In addition to the aforesaid AddressGuard feature (including the feature of disposable e-mail addresses), you’ll also get some additional extra features in the Yahoo! Mail Plus account that are not available in the free Yahoo! Mail account.

The AddressGuard makes it easy for you to create disposable email addresses that you can use wherever you don’t want to share your real email address. Thus, while you can use your real email address for communicating with people whom you know and who are trustworthy, you can use the disposable email addresses to communicate with other people or organizations such as for mailing lists, online services, subscribing to websites, for becoming member of Internet groups, etc.

The advantage of using the disposable email addresses is that the moment it falls into the hands of the spammers and you start getting a lot of spam mail in that email address, you can simply delete that e-mail address from AddressGuard. The moment you delete a disposable e-mail address, subsequent mails addressed to that account will immediately bounce back to the senders and will not come to your real e-mail address associated with your Yahoo! Mail Plus account. However, your disposable email address will work till you don’t delete it. So, if you’re happy with a disposable email address, you can keep using it till you want; and, the moment you start getting spam mail you may simply delete it.

Your disposable e-mail address will protect your privacy in yet another way. When you communicate with others using your disposable e-mail address, your personal name is not included in the sender’s information. In the “From” column of the e-mails sent by you, your name is not displayed and only your disposable email address is displayed, thereby protecting your privacy.

For using the feature of disposable e-mail addresses, you can select a “base name” that will form the first part of a disposable address and will be common to all the disposable addresses created by you under that account. In fact, you can create as many as 500 disposable email addresses with the same base name by appending different keywords for different services. Therefore, you can easily create different disposable e-mail addresses for different online services. Since Yahoo! Mail Plus will not allow you to use your Yahoo! ID or profile either as a base name or as a keyword for constructing your disposable e-mail addresses, it will ensure that your disposable e-mail addresses will be entirely different from your real e-mail address, thereby protecting the privacy of your real e-mail address.

Thus, if you’re worried about getting a lot of spam mail by use of your real e-mail address, you can use disposable e-mail addresses for communicating with people you don’t know or for online services. This service from Yahoo! can protect your privacy, though you’ll have to subscribe to the paid Yahoo! Mail Plus email account for this purpose.

There are plenty of sites out there that do similar things. I wrote an application called whyspam.me you can use it to create Disposable Email, that gets forwarded to your personal inbox without exposing your information.

Then we track and expose the websites who send you spam.
