Undo email already sent in Gmail!!! How?

October 15, 2009, Category: Email

Gmail allows you to undo a sent email within a few seconds after sending it Did you hit the “Send” button on your email being composed too soon before the email was fully ready? Or, did you have second thoughts after clicking the “Send” button on an email? Don’t worry. You can undo sending of the email which has already been sent!!! Yes, it is true; but, only if you’re using Gmail.

Gmail has added an experimental feature, courtesy Google Labs, to undo the email already sent from it. Provided you act fast and within next few seconds, may be about 5-6 seconds. This new experimental feature in Gmail will allow you to cancel the email that you’ve already sent by hitting the “Send” button on the email being composed. But, decide fast if you want to UNDO the email just sent. You only have time for a few seconds.

How to undo the “Send” operation in Gmail?

Well, proceed as under:

(1) Login to your Gmail account.

(2) Click on Settings link at the right-top corner of the screen.

(3) Now, from the Settings bar, click Labs link, which represents Google Labs.

(4) Several new experimental Labs features added to Gmail will appear on the screen. Scroll down the screen till you get to the feature Undo Send. Select the Enable button. See the following image:

(5) Now, go the top (or bottom) of the screen and click Save Changes button. See the image below:

(6) This will enable the experimental feature of Undo Send, which means that once you send an email from Gmail by hitting the Send button, for a few seconds Gmail will display the Undo link. If you click the Undo link during the time it is visible, the email that you’ve just sent will be undone, i.e., this email will be canceled and will not be sent. See the following image which displays the Undo link along with the message saying that “Your message has been sent” which I got on my screen when I hit the Send button on an email:

(7) If you want to undo the Send operation, immediately click the Undo link. Your email sending operation will be cancelled and the email will not be sent now. See, the following confirmation which I got when I clicked the Undo link after hitting the Send button:

That’s it! Undo Send is an experimental feature added to Gmail by the Google Labs. You can try it if you like it (or if you’ve the habit of clicking the Send button too soon!!!).
