Sometimes, we may suddenly remember about an important event only at the last minute and not well in time which could have given us sufficient time to prepare for the event. Well, it is possible to use your email service such as Yahoo! Mail to set reminders for all such important events so that we could be automatically reminded well in time as per our own settings. This will ensure that we never forget and never miss an important event. And, we can prepare well in advance for such event if we set ourselves to be reminded well in advance and repeatedly if needed.

If you’ve Yahoo! Mail account, then by default you are also subscribed to the free Yahoo! Calendar services. You can use Yahoo! Calendar to set various types of reminders with different options which will ensure that you’ll never miss an important event. It supports setting up of various events and reminders for the same. Events could be anything which needs your attention, e.g.,

(1) Your birthday or some friend’s birthday;

(2) Wedding anniversary;

(3) Bill payment;

(4) Car servicing;

(5) Payment of taxes;

(6) Time to take medicine;

(7) Meetings; etc.

Yahoo! Calendar has many pre-set choices for such events and you can have any other choices as well.

Likewise, events could be recurring events, such as taking medicines which may require daily attention, or birthdays which will occur every year. Or else, the events could be a one-time event, such as some important meeting. You can set the options to get repeated reminders about a particular event or a single or two reminders about that. • You can send reminders to your Yahoo! Mail, your Yahoo! Messenger, and your Mobile device. Select the options you want and provide details of your email, mobile no., etc.
  • You can set two reminders for each event (later on, you’ll see, how more reminders could be set for a single event). You can set the time when these reminders will be sent to you before the events; it can be anything between “zero” time to 14 days as per the options available.

Please remember that these are just the general settings. You can override these settings while setting reminders for your individual specific events.

Now, to set up an event for which you want to get reminders, click Add Event button in Yahoo! Calendar.

You can set various options for an event, only some of which are shown in the figures below, which are mostly self-explanatory.

Once you have set all the options, save the event details.

That’s it! Now your event has been set up. And, you’ll start getting reminders by email or on your messenger or the mobile device, as per your options (or all of them). As per your settings, you can get the reminders one week before the important event and then again on the day of the event. In case of medicine, for example, you can set one reminder to be sent to your mobile device just 5 minutes before the time when the medicine is to be taken.

Thus, in this manner, by setting up reminders and events, you can streamline your activities and ensure that no important event misses your attention. It won’t happen next time that you forgot the wedding anniversary and your spouse is kept waiting…! On the contrary, present a timely and surprise gift to your spouse on that important event, that you can plan well in time.
