Finally, after much media hype for last about a month, Google Nexus One, the first mobile phone from Google, which Google prefers to call a “superphone”, has finally been launched.

However, you won’t get it from retail stores. You can buy it online from Google’s Web Store. The unlocked Nexus One phone is available for purchase for $529 and that can work in most countries. However, you can also buy the subsidized version of Nexus One for $179, and that is also unlocked, through T-mobile; and this one comes with a monthly plan of $80 per month that includes 500 minutes, unlimited data, and unlimited SMS bundled in it; of course there would be a termination fee for this subsidized version of the phone.

At present, Google Nexus One phone will be shipped officially to customers only in U.S., U.K., Singapore and Hong Kong. However, it appears that the phone can be used in most countries.
Nexus One has been manufactured by HTC. It has a large 3.7 inch 480 x 800 OLED touchscreen display for deep contrast and brilliant colors, that appears to be better than all existing smartphones. It supports a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset for lightning speed and appears to be the fastest phone. It runs on Google’s own Android 2.1 software.

Nexus One also has a voice-enabled keyboard that allows you to speak into any text field instead of typing with the help of touchscreen keyboard. This can save a lot of your time. It has a 3D photo gallery for richer media experiences and fun Live Wallpapers. Nexus One supports several Google applications such as Gmail, Google Voice and Google Maps Navigation. In fact, Google Voice is fully integrated in it, that means you can retain your Google Voice number while using it.
Nexus One appears to be capable of giving a tough competition to Apple’s iPhone. Its features are in no way inferior to those of iPhone; in fact, many of its features beat those of iPhone. Here is a quick graphical comparison of the features and pricing of Apple iPhone, Palm Pre, Motorola Droid, and Google Nexus One, prepared by BillShrink (click on the image for an enlarged view):
Overall, Google Nexus One appears to be a perfect match to iPhone. However, one doesn’t know how well will it succeed in marketing efforts since Google is going to sell it only online and not through the retail stores, at least as of now.
