Display your photo with your comments & posts everywhere with Gravatar

October 13, 2009, Category: Internet

Your gravatar is your photo or image displayed beside your comments or posts on blogs and sites on the Internet You might have seen that when a person comments on a website or blog, his photograph (or some other image) may also appear along with his name. The same photograph or image would appear automatically wherever such person comments on a supported website on the Internet. That’s the Gravatar of that person. You can also easily display your photo or image in your comments or in your posts on the blogs or websites or in your contributions to the web forums anywhere on the Internet, provided such site is enabled for displaying Gravatars. Therefore, if a site shows the Gravatars of other persons, then your Gravatar would also appear on that site.

So, what is a gravatar? Your gravatar is an image or picture that automatically follows you from site to site on the Internet appearing beside your name when you comment or post on a blog. The gravatar, a kind of Avatar, helps to identify your posts on various blogs, websites and web forums.

Gravatars of different persons - how they look like

If you want to have your own gravatar, i.e., your photo or image appearing beside what you do on the Internet, visit Gravatar to create your own avatar. It’s a very simple one-time process for registration. You’ve to enter your email address at this site, which you’d be using while commenting or posting on blogs / sites. Immediately after this, you’ll get an activation email in which you’ll find a link that when clicked on will bring you back to the Gravatar site where you can set your password and create your gravatar. For creating your gravator, you can upload your photo or any other image from your computer. You can also choose any image from the Internet as your gravatar. You can crop the relevant portion of the image to make it the standard size. After that, you’ll be asked to choose the rating for your image to find out whether it is suitable for display on all sites, etc.

That’s all you’ve to do to create your gravatar. Next time when you comment on a blog or a site or post some article with the aforesaid email address with which you’ve registered the gravatar, your gravatar will automatically appear beside your comment, post, etc., on all websites on the Internet which have enabled gravators. It is pertinent to point out most of the sites on the Internet are gravatar-enabled.
