Keyword Tool for Google Adwords - research tool for keyword tools If you are an advertiser or a publisher, you should have sufficient knowledge about which keywords generate how many searches on the web and which are the related keywords which are searched most. If you have subscribed to Google AdWords, then you can get these figures by signing in to AdWords. However, Google also provides an external tool, called Keyword Tool for Adwords which allows you to search for various keywords and their related keywords even if you are not a subscriber to AdWords.

This Keyword Tool allows you to prepare detailed lists of relevant keywords. You can use it to generate keyword ideas and to review traffic estimations for different keywords. It is an excellent research tool for keywords.

You can use this tool for searching keywords basically in two different ways:

(1) Search descriptive words or phrases:

In this type of search, you can search for a specific keyword or a phrase. For example, you can search for spyware, password, iphone, apple laptop, and the like. Use any word or phrase to search for the related keywords. You can optionally choose also to search the synonyms of the word or phrase being searched by this tool. See the following image:

For example, when you search for “password”, it shows search volume for this keyword as also for about 100+ related keywords such as passwords, password reset, windows password, password protection, password hack, hotmail password, recovery password, lost password, etc. The tool shows the Search Volume for the latest month. For example, the global search volume for August, 2009, for “password” is found to be about 16 million searches whereas for “password cracker” it is about 368,000 searches.

In this manner, you can easily find which are the important keywords and what are the related keywords which are searched the most by users all over the world on the Google search engine.

(2) Search website content:

In this type of search, you can use the keyword tool to search for the most important keywords used on a particular website or web page by entering the URL. You can optionally include other pages in that site which are linked to the URL entered by you for search. See the following image:

For example, when I searched for TechCrunch website, the Google Keyword Tool produced results from this website relating to the following categories of keywords:

Venture capital (11 keywords), small business (10 keywords), business startup (5 keywords), start up (6 keywords), a business (5 keywords), business (22 keywords), startup (17 keywords), laptop (13 keywords), job (10 keywords), marketing (10 keywords), advertising (9 keywords), adsense (9 keywords), pc (8 keywords), new (5 keywords), investors (5 keywords), people (5 keywords), prototype (5 keywords), Miscellaneous keywords (45 keywords).

This tool also produced the monthly volume data for global searches on all these keywords. For example, the keyword “venture capital” had search volume of 450,000 and the keyword “laptop computers” had a search volume of 7,480,000.

This Keyword Tool gives you several options to search keywords in different combinations. You can customize the search and the search results. You can export the search results of keywords into text files or spreadsheet files (.csv file or .csv file for Excel).

However, please remember that what this Keyword Tool produces is only the approximate figures on the basis of the historical data and there is no guarantee that similar search volumes would be noticed in future as well. But, in any case, the tool provides an authentic source of researching data on various keywords. It is up to you how to make use of this vast amount of data. You can use this tool to search various keywords which are of interest to your website, if you are a publisher. On the other hand, if you are an advertiser, you can find which keywords will produce best results for your ad campaign.

For getting more ideas on the keywords of your interest, you can also try the Search-based Keyword Tool, a tool that can generate ideas matched to the keywords used on your website.
