Google Search adds nine new options to filter search results

Google Search adds 9 new options to filter search results Just five days back, Google had added a new feature to its search results whereby you could jump to a specific relevant section of the web page directly from the search results. And, today, it has added nine new options to Google Search; this time these options relate to how to filter search results on the basis of certain extra criteria. Having added the Search Options in May this year, which can be opened in a side-bar on the search results page and whereby you can filter and refine the search results on the basis of certain options and generate different views of the search results (for example, view the search results from web pages of last 24 hours), Google has now added nine new options to the above Search Options.

Have a look at the following image to see some of these new options, which have been highlighted by me on this image:

Some of the new options added to Google Search to filter search results

These new Search Options are: Search results filtered by (1) past hour, (2) specific date range, (3) more shopping sites, (4) fewer shopping sites, (5) visited pages, (6) not yet visited pages, (7) books, (8) blogs and (9) news. You can try them yourself by searching any expression in Google Search and then clicking “Show options” in the blue bar just under the Google logo.

It appears that Google is adding new features to its Search at a frantic pace, and reports suggest that this is mainly to ward off competition from other search engines, particularly Bing from Microsoft which has been trying new search features and has been gaining some extra market share. In any case, it is good for the users and proves the general market mantra that competition always brings out the best from the competitors and that it is the consumers who ultimately benefit from competition. So, let there be more competition!
