MySpace enables two-way sync with Twitter

September 21, 2009, Category: Internet

Twitter Survival of the fittest? Who blinks first in the battle of nerves? Well, it appears that Twitter has been gaining more and more strength. Other social networks are giving in slowly to the might of Twitter. Earlier, it was AOL Instant Manager (AIM) that had MySpace to have two-way sync with Twitter connected with Twitter (and Facebook) with a two-way sync. Now, it is the turn of MySpace offering a two-way sync to its users with Twitter. MySpace has kept the option open for offering sync with other networks (read Facebook?) in future.

It is important to point out that it is a unilateral announcement from MySpace and not a bilateral or two-party collaboration announcement from MySpace and Twitter together. What it amounts to indirectly imply is that MySpace is submitting to the might of Twitter unilaterally by offering this two-way sync.

It is also pertinent to note that once a member connects his accounts in these two services, status updates from MySpace would then be identified as being “from MySpace” in his Twitter stream, as if it were another Twitter client, with a link back to MySpace. What it clearly amounts to imply is that now MySpace has accepted the position of a “client” of Twitter like any other user. So, you can judge for yourself who is the winner. In fact, as of today, Twitter and Facebook continue to be the two most used social networks, gaining strength over time, may be at the cost of other networks. This announcement by MySpace appears to be an effort on its part to retain its users.

In any case, it is a good news for the users of the two social networks; they may not be required now to update their status in the two networks separately.
