Twitter means real-time updates on what is happening in the world. And, moreover, these updates are directly from tens of millions of people spread all over the world. These updates on Twitter relate not only to the thoughts and feelings of the people who tweet, but also to information and latest news about what is happening around the globe. Even the best newspapers or the best media houses cannot match the power of the real-time updates that millions of people can directly send from different parts of the world. Even assuming that a good percentage of tweets are duplicates or inform about what is already on the Internet, the power of Twitter in the matter of real-time updates via tweets goes unmatched at the moment. And, now this has been recognized both by Google and Microsoft, the two giants in the technology sector. Today, on a single day, both Google Search and Bing have reached agreements with Twitter to get full access to its feed of public tweets. You can now expect real-time search both from Google and Bing!
So, there is nothing unusual if in the same breath (OK, on the same day), Twitter states that Google is nice and Bing is dynamite!!! Twitter has a reason to smile (nay, two reasons) as it embraces Google and Microsoft, two arch-rivals, at the same time.
Google is excited that its “search results and user experience will greatly benefit from the inclusion of this up-to-the-minute data” from Twitter; though it is still looking forward “to having a product that showcases how tweets can make search better in the coming months”.
As for Bing, it has already included a preliminary version of a Twitter Search (if this link does not work in your locale, try this one).
A win-all situation for everybody, including for the Internet-users!
