Google Docs now allows inbuilt translation of documents in 42 languages Last week, Google released a new feature for Google Docs – you can now automatically translate the Google Docs documents into 42 different languages. This is done using Google Translate’s technology. This will allow easy multi-lingual sharing of Google Docs from within the document itself.

What you have to do is to simply go to Google Docs and login to your account (if you don’t have an account with Google, you can open it in no time, and it is absolutely free). Create a new Google Doc document or open your existing document. Now, click on Translate document on the Tools menu and then select the language from the popup menu into which you want to translate your document. That’s it! Your document will be translated into your selected language in no time. See the following image:

If you so wish, you can replace the original document with its translation or save the translation into a new document. All the formatting and layout of the original document is preserved irrespective of the language. You can easily share your translated document with other persons.

It is pertinent to point out that with Google Docs, you can easily create, share, and edit documents online. And, all of this is absolutely free! You can do the following things with Google Docs:

  • Upload your Microsoft Word, OpenOffice, RTF, HTML or plain text documents to Google Docs; or create new documents from scratch.
  • Maintain your documents online.
  • Download your online Google Docs documents to your computer in the form of Microsoft Word, OpenOffice, RTF, PDF, HTML or zip file.
  • Easily format your documents, spell-check them, etc.
  • Edit your documents online simultaneously with other persons that you can choose, and also invite other people to view such documents. This will allow online joint projects with other persons where more than one person can collaborate and edit a document online.
  • If you permit others to edit your document, you can keep track of who made changes to that document and when, and if needed, you can also roll back the document to any of its older versions.
  • Publish your documents online to the world at large in the form of web pages or else you can post your documents to your blog.
  • Email your documents as attachments.
  • You can also create feature-rich documents in the form of spreadsheets (equivalent to Microsoft Excel files) or presentations (equivalent to Microsoft Power Point presentations).
  • Share you PDF files through Google Docs.
  • And, much more!

Google Docs has several rich features. And, now with the new inbuilt translation feature in Google Docs, it becomes easier to share your documents with your friends and others in their own language at the click of a mouse button.
