How to send a file of 250 MB size as email attachment

January 13, 2010

Okay. Let me first correct the heading. It should actually read “How to share a file of 250 MB size with others”, since what I’m writing in this article will allow you to “send” (in fact, to “share”) a file of up to 250 MB size with your friends and others, but not by sending it as an attachment in an email. You’ve to upload it to your free Google Docs account and then share it your friend(s) to whom you wanted to send the file as an email attachment. So, the end result is the same. Your friend(s) get the desired file of 250 MB size from you, though not as an attachment to an email, but by downloading it from your Google Docs account. This alternative method has to be used, since most of the popular email services allow a much lower limit for file size as an attachment to an email. For example, both Yahoo! Mail and Gmail allow the maximum size limit of only 25 MB for a file to be attached to an email. You can now use Google Docs to share files of up to 250 MB size with your friends, as now Google allows all file types to be uploaded online to the cloud. Read more…

No more censored search results for Google’s China search engine

January 13, 2010

Google is on its way to cease its Chinese operations. So it appears. At least, it appears to have made up its mind for that purpose, and the way the Government operates in China, it now looks to be a certainty. For the time being, Google has announced that it will stop censoring the search results served by its China search engine. But, it has also clearly hinted that it is willing to cease its Chinese operations, if it was not allowed to serve uncensored search results in China. This sudden change of policy comes from Google in response to “a highly sophisticated and targeted attack” that took place last month on Google servers and the “primary goal of the attackers was accessing the Gmail accounts of Chinese human rights activists”. Moreover, Google notes that “the accounts of dozens of U.S.-, China- and Europe-based Gmail users who are advocates of human rights in China appear to have been routinely accessed by third parties”. While obviously Google would not say it openly in so many words, but anybody with a little common sense can understand that Google suspects that these “sophisticated and targeted” cyber attacks were organized by some agencies who may perhaps have the blessings of the Chinese Government.
