November 18, 2009, Category: Internet, Software

Adobe Flash 10.1 beta version released Adobe has released a prerelease version of Adobe Flash 10.1 with new features. This version will work for Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems, and a beta version for Palm webOS is likely to be available later this year. This version leverages hardware acceleration of graphics and video and many other performance improvements, such as rendering, scripting, memory utilization, startup time, battery and CPU optimizations. However, the video hardware acceleration feature will be available only for the Windows version at this time. It will also support multi-touch, gestures, mobile input models and accelerometer, enhancing the mobile browsing experience.

The full Flash Player will be available on smart phones and other Internet connected mobile devices. It will be able to take advantage of the upcoming media delivery technologies that will provide rich media experience. With new HTTP streaming and content protection features with Adobe Flash Access, premium audio and video content can be securely delivered within the browser. Streaming performance is enhanced with improved support for live events, buffer controls and peer assisted networking.

However, not all the features and all platforms are supported in the above beta release of Adobe Flash 10.1 version. Moreover, Adobe states that it needs full support from Apple for making available Flash Player on the iPhone, while highlighting that with more than 85% of the top 100 websites using Flash and approximately 75% of all videos on the Web using Flash, Flash on the iPhone would greatly benefit the millions of users.

The full version of Flash Player 10.1 is expected to be generally available for the first half of 2010. It is pertinent to point out that Flash Player 10.1 software will work on smartphones, smartbooks, netbooks, PCs and other Internet connected devices, and it will allow content created using the Adobe Flash platform to reach users wherever they are, including their mobile devices. This product was unveiled recently on October 5, 2009. It allows rich web browsing of expressive applications, content and high-definition videos on various devices, including the mobile devices.

Developers interested in trying this new beta version can download it from the Adobe site.
