Lightscreen - capture image of any area on screen with ease If you want to capture any area of the screen on your computer and save it as an image file, then Lightscreen is the right utility for you. It is a small, free, open-source application with a convenient interface and customizable keyboard shortcuts to capture images from the screen. Lightscreen can easily capture the full screen or an window on the screen or any area on the screen with a configurable hotkey. It can automatically save such captured images into a folder of your choice with the auto-numbered file-names.

Lightscreen - main window

Lightscreen gives you the option to save the captured images in the PNG, JPG or BMP format. You can also copy the captured image to the clipboard.

Its main features include:

  • It can automatically start at Windows startup (in hidden form or displaying its main window, as per your choice).
  • Sit as a System tray icon for easy access.
  • Capture full screen or a window or any area on the screen with configurable hotkeys.
  • Save the image file in the format of your choice (PNG, JPG or BMP).
  • You can select the image quality.
  • An optional notification when the screenshot is taken.
  • Optional screenshot delay.

Lightscreen - options

However, Lightscreen has no image-editing tools. Therefore, once you have saved an image file with Lightscreen, you can edit it by any other image-editing software.

Overall, it is a good utility for quickly capturing images from the screen and directly saving them to files.

Lightscreen is a wonderful tool in the present form. Let it remain light-weight without editing features.
