Google Public DNS Recently, Google had released its free Google Public DNS for faster web access. In an earlier article, I had explained how to use Google Public DNS on Windows XP computer. However, many users find it difficult to make changes to their DNS settings due to the technicalities involved. But now, you can use a simple utility to change the DNS settings of your Windows computer just by a single click in order to start using Google Public DNS.

This utility Google DNS Helper v. 1.2 can easily help you to automatically change your DNS settings to start using the Google Pubic DNS at the IP address “8.8.8.8”. The best part is that it will display your existing DNS setting before making a change and will remember that setting in case you’d like to restore that earlier DNS setting at a later stage if you’re not satisfied with the Google Public DNS. The restoration of the earlier DNS setting is also done by this utility with a single click, as and when you so desire.

Google DNS Helper is small utility with a download size of only about 90 KB. No installation is required. It requires .NET version 2.0 or above to work, that is generally already installed on most Windows machines these days. So, simply download this utility in any folder on your Windows computer and then double-click it to run it, it will display a window like the following:Google DNS Helper

To start using Google DNS, simply click on the “Switch to Google DNS” button, and in a couple of seconds you’ll get the success message after changing your DNS settings to use the Google DNS, as shown below:

At a later stage if you’re not satisfied with the Google DNS, you can restore the earlier DNS settings by running this utility again and then clicking on the “Restore DNS” button.

So, you don’t require to manually change the DNS settings and no technical expertise is required to make these changes.
