Download all your Google Docs documents in a single Zip file

Google Docs - download all your documents in a single Zip file If you’ve hundreds of online documents at Google Docs, and want to download those documents to your computer, how will you do that? You can download a single document each time and thus download all your documents in hundreds of such operations. Wrong. Now, you can download all your documents at Google Docs in one go in a single compressed file, i.e., a Zip file. Therefore, downloading your documents from Google Docs would become quite easy now, saving you a lot of time and energy.

Moreover, while downloading all your documents in a single compressed Zip file, Google Docs also allows you to convert your documents from one format to another, i.e., convert Microsoft Word documents to PDF files or vice-versa. This can be particularly useful when you want to mass convert your documents in one format (say, Microsoft Word) into another format (say, PDF); upload or import all such documents to Google Docs in a single operation (which feature is already available) in a specific sub-folder, and then download them together in the form of a Zip file after converting them into another file format such as PDF.

But, you’re not limited to downloading only one document at a time or all documents at the same time. I mean it is not that you can choose only one of the two extremes, namely, one or all. Google Docs allows you to choose one or more or all documents for downloading them together in a Zip file. Thus, you’ve the choice to select which documents are to be downloaded together in a Zip file. The only restriction at this juncture is that you can download up to 500 MB of content in a single zip file, but that should be much more than sufficient for most users since this means thousands of normal size files. And, even if your files are of larger size, this limit should allow you to download about a hundred files in one go.

This new feature of “Convert, Zip and Download” more than one documents or all documents in one go from Google Docs will in fact make the users more comfortable with Google Docs and will make them use it more.

How to do it?

Select one or more files in Google Docs and then click on Export from the More Actions menu. Now, pick the file format such as Microsoft Word, or PDF, etc., into which you want to export your files. You can choose different formats for different type of files, e.g., you can choose Word format (.doc or .docx) for your documents and PDF format for your spreadsheets, and the like. Finally, click on Continue and you’ll be able to download a zip file containing all the selected files. Have a look at the following image as to how it is done (click on the image for a larger image):

Exporting a large number of files to another format and then converting them into a zip file may take a few minutes, but you don’t to wait for the “export” operation to be completed. You can get an email link for the zip file as soon as it is ready, with the “Email when ready” option.
