It goes without saying that Flickr is the most popular photo-hosting and photo-sharing website on the Internet. Many programs are available for allowing you to download photos from Flickr in a convenient and easy way. Flickr Downloadr is one such software which is free and open-source that can allow you to download pictures and images from Flickr in easy steps.
Flickr Downloadr is a simple but effective software that can download, copy and save full size photos from Flickr to your local computer. It can be run on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. This software presents itself in the following simple interface:
As you can see, it gives you three options to download photos from Flickr:
(1) The Search option allows you to search either a keyword or tag at Flickr to find photos of your interest.
(2) The User option displays photos uploaded to Flickr by a specific Flickr user.
(3) The Group option displays photos for a Flickr group.
Once you’ve searched the photos at Flickr as per your options, you can preview them in Flickr Downloadr software by their thumbnails. You can view up to a maximum of 500 thumbnails per page, though the default is 5 thumbnails per page. Have a look at the Preview page:
However, if there are some photos searched by you that have some copyright restrictions, then these photos will not be downloaded by this software. To distinguish these photos with copyright restrictions, it will show them with copyright watermark. Have a look at the following image to see the copyright watermark on certain photos:
It is pertinent to point out that restriction on downloading photos that are licensed with the default license “all rights reserved” is as per the policy of Flickr to respect the copyright of the Flickr users in their photos. Therefore, such copyrighted photos will not be downloaded by this software. In case you’re a Flickr user and want to download your own photos or want to allow others to download them, you should change the aforesaid default license of “all rights reserved”.
The Preview page of Flickr Downloadr software will display a Creative Commons checkbox where the photos being displayed have been tagged with it. Have a look at the following image:
Once you select the photos to be downloaded, and click on the Download button, the program will start downloading them to your computer; see the following image:
Overall, Flickr Downloadr is a nice free tool to download Flickr photos with a very simple and easy-to-follow interface.
