If you want to delete some long text in a Microsoft Word document, you can select that text and then press the Delete key. Another method is to manually keep pressing Delete key or the Backspace key several times to delete long text. But, this second method may take a considerable time if the text to be deleted is quite long, since it will delete a single character each time. However, Word provides a simple way to delete a complete word at a time that can allow you to delete the desired text at a much faster pace.
For doing so, you can use Ctrl + Delete keys or the Ctrl + Backspace keys together, as the case may be. For example, pressing the Ctrl + Delete keys together will delete all the characters from the insertion point to the beginning of the next word in one go. Thus, the whole word can be deleted in a single step. Move the cursor to the desired place in your Word document and then press Ctrl + Delete as many times as you want (or hold down these keys together) to delete the words on the right of the insertion point. For example, if you press these keys 6 times, 6 words will be deleted in the right direction. Similarly, Ctrl + Backspace together 6 times will delete 6 words to the left from the insertion point (i.e., in the backward direction). However, please remember that if the insertion point is in the middle of a word (and not at the beginning or the end of the word), pressing Ctrl + Delete will delete the remaining characters of the current word from the insertion point to the right. So, it would be advisable to move the cursor to the beginning of a word before using Ctrl + Delete so that the whole word could be deleted in one go.
