If you insert a hyperlink in Microsoft Word to a web page, you can follow that hyperlink by Ctrl + Click to visit that web page in your default browser. This means that you’ve to hold the Ctrl key down and then Click with mouse on that hyperlink. You can easily make the hyperlinks clickable by just a simple click by changing an option in Word. Once you change this option, you can visit the web page linked by the hyperlink in a Word document just by a simple click on it; there would be no need to hold the Ctrl key down.
See, in the following figure, the default behavior in Microsoft Word that requires Ctrl + Click to follow a hyperlink as displayed by the tool-tip:
Now, when you make the hyperlinks clickable by a simple click, this allows you to follow hyperlinks in a Word document by a simple click, as displayed by the tool-tip in the following figure:
To make the hyperlinks clickable by just a simple click, proceed as under:
(1) Open Microsoft Word.
(2) In Word 2002 or 2003, click Tools menu and then Options command to open the Options dialog box.
In Word 2007, click on the Office button, and then click on Word Options to display the Word Options dialog box.
(3) In Word 2002 / 2003, select the Edit tab (see figure below):
In Word 2007, in the left side-bar of the dialog box, click on Advanced.
(4) Now, unselect or clear the “Use CTRL + Click to follow hyperlink” check box, i.e., remove the check mark from the check box.
(5) Click on OK button to close the dialog box.
That’s it! The hyperlinks in a Word document can now be followed just by a simple click.
