At times you may be interested in removing the formatting from certain text in a Microsoft Word document. Or else, you’re copying some formatted text from some other program, such as a web page in a browser, and want to paste it into Word in the form of plain text without any formatting. For example, you’ve some text with a hyperlink in it that directs to a website, and you want to remove the hyperlink. You can easily remove all the formatting from any text and convert it into plain text, in either of the following two ways.
Before using either of these two methods, copy or cut the formatted text from the Word document or other source such as from a browser. Now use either of these two methods:
(1) Use Paste Options in Word:
Paste this formatted text in the same or another Word document. Just below the pasted text, you’ll notice the “Paste Options” icon. Click on this icon and the following popup menu appears:
Select the option “Keep Text Only” from this popup menu. The formatting from this text will now be removed and you’ll have only plain and unformatted text.
(2) Use Notepad:
The second method is to use the free Notepad application. Open the Notepad program and paste this formatted text in a new document in it. Notepad will automatically remove all the formatting from the text and will retain only the unformatted text. Now, you can copy this plain text from Notepad and paste it again into Word. It will now be in the form of plain text in Word. Or else, you can directly save the plain text in a text file (.txt file) in Notepad itself.
