WordPress 2.9 version available now for download

WordPress 2.9 version released WordPress.org has released a major update to the popular blogging platform WordPress that powers millions of blogs around the world. WordPress 2.9 version is now available for download and installation. If you sign in to your WordPress dashboard, you’ll be prompted to directly upgrade to the new version from there. This new version has several new features and enhancements. The development of this upgrade has seen as many as 500 tickets, bugs and enhancements.

Some of the major changes introduced in WordPress 2.9 version (this version is named as “Carmen”) are as under:

(1) If you accidentally delete a post or comment, you can undelete that from the Trash, courtesy the new Global Undelete / Trash feature.

(2) You can crop, edit, rotate, flip, and scale your images directly from within the WordPress using the newly inbuilt image editor.

(3) Embed videos easily into your posts by just pasting the URL for the video that will get converted automatically into the proper embed code. This feature supports videos from YouTube, Hulu, Daily Motion, Google Video, Blip.tv, Flickr, Scribd, Viddler, Qik, Revision3, Photobucket, PollDaddy, and WordPress.tv.

(4) Batch plugin update and compatibility checking: Update 10 plugins at once. Moreover, you can get a better idea of whether your plugins are compatible with new releases of WordPress.

(5) Support for rel=canonical tag. This can be helpful from SEO point of view if your website has identical or vastly similar content accessible through more than one URLs.

(6) Automatic database optimization support, that can be enabled by adding define(‘WP_ALLOW_REPAIR’, true); in your wp-config.php file.

(7) Better API support for custom post types that enables you to have more types than just post, page, and attachment.
