How to pin a program to taskbar in Windows 7 Microsoft Windows 7 allows you to pin a program to taskbar (at the bottom of the screen on which the Start button appears) or to the Start menu. Pinning a program basically means creating a shortcut for the program. Once a program has been pinned to the taskbar, you can open / start the program with a single click; instead of taking a long route of clicking on Start, clicking on All Programs, finding the program’s icon, then clicking on it. Thus, by pinning your favorite or most used programs to the taskbar, you can save several clicks and immediately access the program with a single click.

There are several ways to pin a program or software to the taskbar in Windows 7, as explained below:

(1) If the program that you want to pin is already running, then right-click the program button on the taskbar (or drag the button toward the desktop). This will open the Jump List of the program; now, click Pin this program to taskbar option (see figure below):

(2) If the program that you want to pin is not running currently, click Start button, then click All Programs, find the program’s icon, right-click the icon, and lastly click Pin to Taskbar (see figure below):

(3) The third method to pin a program to the taskbar is by dragging the program’s shortcut from the desktop or from the Start menu to the taskbar. For doing so, left-click on the shortcut but do not release the mouse button, and while holding the mouse button down, drag it to the taskbar and then release the mouse button.

(4) The fourth method is, if you drag the shortcut of a file or a folder or a website to the taskbar, and the associated program is not already pinned there, then that program will get pinned to the taskbar and the dragged item (i.e., file, folder, etc.) will get pinned to the program’s Jump List.

So, you can use any of these methods to pin a program / software to the taskbar in Windows 7. Once the program has been pinned to the taskbar, its icon will appear on the taskbar, from where you can start the program with a single click.

At a later stage, if you want to remove a pinned program from the taskbar in Windows 7, simply open the program’s Jump List by right-clicking on its icon in the taskbar, and then click on the Unpin this program from taskbar option.
